One day, Parvati Shiva‘s wife Posted Nandi at the door and commanded him to not let anyone enter without her permission. When Shiva came, Nandi was unable to stop him from entering own Home. This annoyed Parvati. So she created a gana who offered first allegiance to her. She blessed him and declared him her own son. Then ordered him to not let anyone enter without her permission. To Shiva‘s astonishment the young boy barred his way. He felt insulted and ordered his ganas to defeat the boy and uphold his prestige. The boy valiantly defeated them all. Then Shiva called upon Karthikeya and Indra to lead the troops to war. Parvati then created two Shaktis, Kali and Durga to assist her son and protect him from harm. When all their attempts failed, Shiva himself came down on the battlefield. He and Vishnu defeated the boy and cut off his head. Parvati was furious. She created thousands of Shakti and commanded them to devour all the devas and ganas. Brahma and Vishnu pleaded for mercy. Parvati then demanded that his son was to regain his life and an honorable status. On Shiva‘s direction, they set off north and brought the head of the first creature that met them, a single tusked elephant and placed it on the boy’s body. He woke up to life. Shiva apologized to Parvati. And declared that his son shall be called Ganesha, the presiding officer of all his ganas and be worthy of worship till the end of time. Till this day before any venture is undertaken, Ganesha is invoked and his blessings are sought. He is also worshipped as ‘Vigneshwara’ the queller of obstacles. A very Happy Chathurthi to you
