When I think of a fighter, The first name that comes to my mind is that of Katniss Everdeen. The death of her father crushed her mother. Unable to get her mother to rouse, she rose to the challenges and took to hunting. Becoming the only breadwinner of her family at a young age. Her sister Prim means the world to her, there is no limit in the sky that she wouldn’t fly for her. To Katniss, her sister, mother Gale and Peeta come before her survival.
Even though Survival has been her instinct, it did not make Katniss stone-hearted. Throughout the hunger games, she grieved, killing the other tributes regardless of them being thirsty for her blood. She holds great compassion, empathy and love. Knowing the struggle of hunger, after being a victor she did her bit to feed the hungry. Katniss possesses the gift of Archery and shares a special bond with birds. She knows how to forage edible plants and takes to hunting as her ultimate strength. The fear of losing her loved ones has been her strength and has given her the reason to fight the hunger games. And in the end, she realises it wasn’t the fear of losing them, but the power of their love.
Katniss knows the misery of the poor and the contentment of the Capitol in the misery of the poor. One of her drawbacks Is that she couldn’t muster up the courage to save the red-headed avox. But, she built up the courage gradually to light up the revolution saving many future avoxes. In the form of a revolution she transformed a population of slaves into an army, and made it clear to the cruel Capitol, ‘If we burn, you burn with us!. A fierce, intelligent and lovable character, Katniss Everdeen is the deserving Mockingjay. And may the odds be ever in her favour.
