Nina buried her grief into transforming Matthias’s country. But did those barbaric witch hunters deserve salvation? She wished she had Inej’s gift for spywork or Kaz’s gift for scheming, but she only seemed to have Jesper’s gift for bad decisions. So she tried anyway. The second army is gaining strength and the enemies won’t keep quiet. But when they do speak, Zoya plans on giving them a fitting reply, after all, she was all thorns. She will repair this broken nation and take the second army to heights that it didn’t reach even under the darkling’s leadership, until then she won’t rest.
The wounds left by the civil war are only starting to heal. Ravaka is at the verge of collapse. The coffers are empty and The king is ill with a secret that risks his ability to rule and secure the throne. What’s more? It’s Ravaka, there’s always more. The bordering enemies will stop at nothing to make use of this vulnerability, if they find out. Fate gives him but one chance, to face his demons or feed them, once and for all. The stakes are high, but Nikolai has always had the gift to pull off the impossible. They would build a new world together. But first they had to tear the old one down. Are they strong enough to survive the fall?
What I love most about the book is the past of Nikolai and Zoya. Their struggles gave rise to their great character, my love and respect for these two have skyrocketed. The King of scars is entertaining and has a unique sense of humour. The climax is totally unprecedented and yet not bizarre. It is a fiery book about a tenacious nation, fighting all odds, refusing to surrender. Dear Readers, this roller coaster should not be left unridden!
